Spot and Solve Common Facial Problems

Men & women: same yet different. One differing point is our oily skin. Once puberty hits, men have higher sebum secretion and longer lasting acne problems as compared to women. This fact combined with the lack of knowledge in men skin care leaves a lasting effect, one of shame and lack of confidence. Skin care for men is a simple yet complicated routine. Every day, men face problems regarding their skin—some issues more common than others. In this article, we talk about the common men facial problems, and how they can be treated.

ACNE

As sebum levels are greater for men, they are more prone to larger, longer lasting acne. This is because the high level of sebum in men makes it all the more likely for oil to coagulate with dirt and other impurities resulting in a very acne-prone skin. Acne accounts as one of the biggest skin problems for men.  Regular face treatment and personal grooming should be done in order to ensure the face is clean and unclogged with excess sebum. Sometimes, however, further measures need to be taken because acne may be hormonal. With this, you must consult a dermatologist so that proper oral medication can be prescribed.

SUNBURN

Sunburn is one of the most common skin problems in tropical countries such as Malaysia. It hurts to have a sunburned skin, and its effects can also penetrate deep into the cells causing skin cancer. To prevent sunburns make sure to apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going out to battle the rays of the sun, and reapply every two hours or so depending on how much you sweat or when you’re going for a swim. The rays are at their strongest between 10 o’clock in the morning to 4 o’clock in the afternoon. If you already have sunburned skin, you can apply creams or gels containing menthol, camphor or aloe to soothe the sunburnt area[1].

DARK UNDER-EYE CIRCLES

Having a busy schedule could deprive you of sleep and cause you to have unflattering eye bags. This is a given at least one point in every man’s life. However, what’s not a given are tired-looking eyes rounded by dark circles. By maintaining a healthy body, eating nutrient-rich foods, hydrating with water and practicing meditation, the dark circles can easily be reduced. A bonus tip would be to get a relaxing men’s facial or simply DIY by slicing up a cool cucumber and putting one on each tired lids, it’ll do the trick most of the time!
